Dee Bailey
Art for the love of nature.
Yukon-based artist, Dee Bailey, has developed
techniques for sculptural painting since 2013. Trained in fine art and biology in
Alberta, her love of nature, wildlife, and the outdoors are often the subject
matter of her art. Dee creates to reconnect people with nature through art. She
refreshes painting genres, while adding in a twist of surrealism. Dee seeks
daily habits and studio practices that contribute to environmental
sustainability.
In
2015, Dee attended an artist’s residency in Vallauris, France at a clay
facility. She was selected to participate in the Canada C3 voyage in 2017 as an
artist aboard an ice breaker vessel. An Iceland artist residency in 2018
allowed Dee to research people’s connections to nature. During July 2019 Dee
was the artist in residence in Yukon’s Tombstone Territorial Park. In 2020 she
presented a solo exhibition of clay paintings centered on themes of respect,
security, and comfort in nature. Dee is a member of the Yukon Artists at Work
Society, where the members run their own gallery.
